Loon Haunt owners, Ryan and Eliza Scott, have been an integral part of Loon Haunt since 2017 working in concert with Bill and Louise Coppen who have been entertaining guests with warm northern hospitality for close to 50 years.
In 1977, Bill secured permission to build his own fly-in fishing resort on Goose Lake. Bill and Louise started with undeveloped land, built a camp from the ground up, and welcomed their first guests in 1978. Over the years, several outposts were acquired, and others built. Bill and Louise enjoyed meeting new people and made lifelong friends during their 45 years operating Loon Haunt. When Ryan and Eliza Scott joined the team at Loon Haunt a few years ago, Bill was pleased as he knew they would be ideally suited to take the helm as owners of the resort.
In 2024, Ryan took over formal ownership of Loon Haunt following the unexpected passing of founder Bill Coppen.
Ryan has thousands of hours flying in the bush and possesses the skills necessary to own, manage, and operate Loon Haunt as visioned by Bill since establishment. Louise remains a figurehead at Goose Lake and cheerfully helps guests locate fish, manage day to day camp chores, and even provide guests with a fish filleting lesson.
Ryan, Eliza, and Louise take an active interest in their guests and feel fortunate to be able to earn a living surrounded by people they enjoy. Together, they work with a wealth of experience and genuine love for what they do. Nothing is more important than the chance to visit with their guests and share a story or two.
overview
A Canadian fly-in fishing trip to one of Loon Haunt’s five remote outpost cabins for world-class trophy walleye and northern pike is the trip of a lifetime. We operate out of Red Lake, Ontario, which is a popular float-plane base with several available local amenities including hotels, grocery stores as well as restaurants. Red Lake is located at the end of Highway 105, approximately 240 miles north of International Falls, Minnesota.
Our five fly-in outpost camps are located between 30-75 miles north of Red Lake, with flight times taking 35 minutes or less to all locations. At each of our five lakes, we are the exclusive outposts, which ensures low fishing pressure and a high number of trophy-size walleye and northern pike.

Goose lake
Our Goose Lake location is our main outpost, which includes four cabins offering twice-weekly housekeeping service, group shore lunch locations, indoor fish filet stations, new service building, new 9.9-hp Honda motors on custom walk-though 16-ft Lund boats, Wi-Fi, and much more. Located 65 miles northeast of Red Lake, Ontario, it is the only camp on the lake.
We offer outstanding walleye and northern pike fishing as well as a portage to neighboring Nechigona Lake for the more adventurous guests. Goose Lake is about seven square miles and offers a diverse array of fishing opportunities—plenty of laydown and structure, steep drop-offs, weedy bays, sunken reefs, and gravel beds that hold fish. We are the resident caretakers and will look after all your needs at Goose Lake. Our practice of accepting a maximum of 24 guests at one time ensures you both privacy and personalized service. There are four cabins on Goose Lake, each of which hold between two to eight guests and include indoor bathroom, potable water, lounging/eating areas, wood-burning stove for heat, and full kitchens.

monroe lake
This two-room outpost is the only cabin on Monroe Lake and is located on a small island that has an outstanding view of the lake, which features walleye and northern pike. The island is also home to a pair of loons who nest on it every year as do a pair of mergansers. Constructed of horizontal tongue and groove pine boards, this cabin will sleep up to six guests. There is a walk-in pantry with ample shelving for storage, a shower area with wash basin, and an outdoor privy. The boats at Monroe Lake are 14-ft Alumarines with dependable 6-hp Yamaha outboards—plus a spare motor. The boats are stored on a boat ramp for ease of launching and there is also a cribbed dock. Monroe Lake boasts two portage lakes, one to the west (West Lake) and one to the south (U Lake). Both portage lakes have boats and motors ready and waiting for guests.

poirier lake
The three-room cabin on Poirier Lake was designed using frame construction and pine siding to accommodate parties of two only. It is the only cabin on the lake, which features walleye and northern pike. The cabin has a separate bedroom with two single beds that can be rolled together for couples. It includes a large kitchen/dining area and a bathroom with sink and shower to complete the cabin as well as an outdoor privy nearby. A spacious attached deck also holds a propane barbecue. Poirier Lake has a boat ramp, a floating dock, and a 14-ft Alumarine boat with a 6-hp Yamaha motor—plus a spare motor.

unnamed lake
This spacious one room cabin will accommodate up to eight guests in comfort. It was designed and built using horizontal tongue and groove construction. The cabin is the only one on Unnamed Lake so you will have complete privacy. The lake is well sheltered, like a chain of small lakes about 10 miles long with numerous bays and narrows where walleye and northern pike are found. There is a portage lake nearby that typically produces consistently large walleye and northern pike. The 14-ft Lund and Alumarine boats are teamed with 9.9-hp Johnson motors—plus a spare motor. Two large boat ramps facilitate easy launching for our guests.

whitelaw lake
This roomy cabin is a machined log construction with two bedrooms that will accommodate up to six people. Whitelaw Lake is deeper than our other walleye and northern pike lakes. The dark stained water makes for an incredible walleye population and great fishing throughout the day. A favorite fishing spot is directly in front of the cabin at the base of a burbling rapids. The boats are 14-ft Alumarines with 6-hp Yamaha outboards—plus a spare motor. There are no other camps on the lake, so guests have exclusive access and privacy on the lake. The water at Whitelaw Lake fluctuates a great deal but this causes no problem for the boat launch ramp and floating dock.
