The photo at right is Oliver ice fishing. Oliver is the great grandson of Bill’s sister Kelly from Coppen’s Resort east of Fort Frances at Bear’s Pass on Rainy Lake. The Coppen family has a long history on Rainy Lake.

During WW2 when gasoline was rationed. Oliver’s great, great, great grandparents fitted their boat with lee boards and sails so they could travel on Rainy Lake while conserving fuel.   Oliver’s father Eric  continues this Rainy Lake tradition as a fishing guide. Oliver’s great, great, great grandfather had his picture in the Fort Frances Times about 80 years ago when he caught a bass at the 7 mile bridge, a very rare event at the time.
