It is cold but we are still here in Red Lake. Yesterday, Bill talked with Mike Litwin (Petro Can fuel dealer) and he was making a couple of half loads with his fuel truck into Pikangikum. The ice is not yet thick enough for big trucks and full loads. There is a new school being built at Pikangikum this year so between Pikangikum and Poplar Hill there will be 1,500 truck loads to go in. The winter road also services Sandy Lake, Deer Lake and North Spirit Lake. The winter road goes north from Red Lake on the Nungesser Road to Berens Lake. It crosses Berens Lake and then goes north mostly through the bush. Berens Lake is about 40 miles west of Goose Lake. This is the Howey Bay ice road looking back at Red Lake. The road goes to Cochenour and McKenzie Island.
