    The diesel and the water system are up and running. We have telephone and internet. The minnow traps are in. The water is up, about 14 inches below the top of the dock so there was no problem getting the floating dock from the river.

    The ice is going out in front of our bay right now. The ice flow in the picture has open water on both sides. Monroe and Unnamed are clear of ice. Goose Lake is probably open. Poirier should be ice free soon. Whitelaw should be open in the next few days.

    We traveled from Fort Frances to Red Lake today. Rainy Lake is almost completely ice free.  The ice was off Sand Bay on April 17. This image is Eagle Lake taken from Vermillion Bay.

    Warm weather is forecast for the weekend. The photo at right is from the Superior Airways float plane base in the river. The current produces the first open water in the area. You can see there is still lots of ice around the docks.

    We are back in Red Lake. As you can see by the photo, winter is still here and Howey Bay has lots of ice.

    Don’t be fooled by the open water in the photo at right. I took an hour of training at Fort Langley Air in British Columbia. It is spring in B.C. with flowers and sunshine. We will be back in Red Lake by April 1 to watch the ice and snow melt.

    It is cold but we are still here in Red Lake. Yesterday, Bill talked with Mike Litwin (Petro Can fuel dealer) and he was making a couple of half loads with his fuel truck into Pikangikum. The ice is not yet thick enough for big trucks and full loads. There is a new…
